Anhalt University

The Anhalt University (FH) has become an important essential part between the other universities of         Saxony-Anhalt since its foundation on 1st October 1991. Temporarily more than 6500 students study         at Anhalt University’s locations:

  • Bernburg,
  • Dessau and
  • Köthen

Several research groups of Hochschule Anhalt (FH) / Anhalt University of Applied Sciences have their     domicile in the new building of indigo innovationspark bernburg- the so called hexagonal annex.                 Currently 3 research groups are working here in addition to the study subjects offered at the campus of     Strenzfeld.

Prof. Dr. Erich Buhmann, professor of applied computer science in landscape architecture is working     here with the research group Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA). He is also the head of this         program of study. The emphasis of the group’s works, which are realised in the accommodations of         indigo-Park, is to be found in the area of visualisation. Prof. Dr. Buhmann is also the head of the                 research area Landschaftsinformatik (computer sciences applied on the landscape) at Anhalt                     University (FH) for the indigo innovationspark bernburg gmbh).

The research group of Mrs. Prof. Dr. Margot Steinel, professor of economics related to households at     Anhalt University (FH), department of agriculture, ecotrophology and Landespflege (all things related to     landscape care) works in the accommodations of indigo-Park on several research projects related to     private households and big households. Currently the emphasis of research lays in the area of quality     management and cost management in domestically related service enterprises. The research group     develops internet-based modules for further education as well as benchmarking-tools for this                     purpose. These tools shall give the enterprises the opportunity to describe both the quality of their             services and the occurring costs and to compare them each other in certain intervals of time.

A working group which covers more than one department has been established in the area of                     “Multimedia methods in the apprenticeship” and coordinates the research work of all 3 locations of            Anhalt University. The contact persons are Prof. D. Norbert Otto and Prof. Dr. Rainer Schlegel. The         working group aims at forcing the usage of multimedia methods in the apprenticeship in all                         departments and preparing the creation of a media centre at the university.

The following research projects are currently worked on:

  • creation of an education portal for Anhalt University
  •  realisation of the virtual program of study “computer science” in collaboration with the universities of Merseburg and Wernigerode
  • development of online-based modules for the correspondence course of economical sciences
  •  provision of a digital archive of images as a medium for teaching and learning purposes in history of arts, archaeology, architecture and design
  • design of internet-based modules for the correspondence course of “Agriculture/Agrarmanagement” (all kinds of decisions involved into agriculture)

Further projects are in their second phase of application.

The big multimedia lab in the second floor of the hexagonal new building offers the possibilities for         the  following applications:

  1. Playback of multimedia records from all important volumes (DVD, CD, VHS/SVHS, digital video, Hi8, VGA, magnetic tape cassette , Magnet Disc) while using standardised presentation techniques (Overhead, slide projector, visualizer, LCD-projectors, Plasma displays, electrical White-Board, device for audio conferences, dynamic and stationary video cameras).

  2. Recording on volumes (e.g. VHS/SVHS, DVD, CD, digital Video et al.)

  3. Pre-productions as video sequences for the production of videos, DVD-Authoring and the burning of DVD.

The existent network solutions for video over IP and the realisation of video conferences are                         continually  adapted on the latest technical possibilities.
