The spa hotel was used as a reserve millitary hospital between 11^th August 1914 and 27^th January 1919, while the cure services were continuing restrictedly. The 20’s and 30’s of the last century were marked by many extensions and changes of the “Rechtsträgerschaft” (a legal sponsorship) .

The cure services ended due to the Second World War. From 19^th September 1939 all buildings became millitary hospital. In the end of the war the spa hotel became an ancillary hospital until summer of 1946.

The time till 1991 is again marked by changing “Rechtsträgerschaften” and conceptions of use. On 1^st January 1964 the original complex of the spa hotel was included in the “Rechtsträgerschaft” of the “Landkreis” (administrative district) Bernburg, department of the health service and the welfare. They established the physiotherapeutic department of the entity “Krankenhaus – Poliklinik Bernburg” and a boarding school for nursing students in the original rooms for bathing in the right part of the building. The other part became the “Kreiskulturhaus” (centre for cultural events in the administrative district of Bernburg).

The Zentrum für Wissenschaft und Technik Bernburg (ZWTB) was designated by Mr. Dr. Reinhart Höppner, leader of the “Bundesland” Saxony-Anhalt, on 30^th June 2000 after extensive sanitation measures and rebuilding works in the right part of the listed spa hotel as well as the erection of a new building in the adjacent spa gardens. The “Landkreis” and the “Stadt” Bernburg, the Kreissparkasse Bernburg and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (FH) function as partners of the ZWTB GmbH. Many innovative enterprises were included to Bernburg, due to the erection of the new building. At the same time research groups from the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (FH) moved into labs at the ZWTB. A closer relation between enterprises of research and development of the region, which are technologically oriented and the scientists of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (FH) was therefore established.
